The Ocean Coordination Mechanism (OCM) celebrated its global launch at UNOC3

The Ocean Coordination Mechanism (OCM) celebrated its global launch at UNOC3, on June 9th, 2025, at a side event hosted by the government of Grenada, during the event United In Action: Actioning Blue 30x30 Vision and Launching the Wider Caribbean Ocean Coordination Mechanism.

The event celebrated early signatories of the Ocean Coordination Mechanism Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) and welcomed the United Mexican States as the 19th signatory of the OCM.

“If we work in isolation from each other, we do not get the results we need. So, that is where we ended up with this idea. Bringing together the people on the protection of the biosphere with the people that try to drive a Sustainable Socio-economic Development agenda, highlighted the Regional Coordinator, UNDP/GEF/UNOPS PROCARIBE+ Project / Secretariat of the Ocean Coordination Mechanism Executive Group (OCM EG), Patrick Debels.

This is an opportunity to continue strengthening efforts to contribute to the well-being of marine capital in the wider Caribbean region.

"Our strength lies in our unity—and our shared recognition that the triple planetary crises demand a response rooted in regional solidarity and governance that reflects who we are. Let it be known: the Caribbean is not just participating in the global ocean agenda—we are shaping it.", said H.E. Safiya Sawney, Special Envoy and Ambassador for Climate for the Government of Grenada.
