CLME+ SAP Implementation Progress

The 10-year “Strategic Action Programme (SAP) for the Sustainable Management of shared Living Marine Resources in the Caribbean and North Brazil Shelf Large Marine Ecosystems” (the “CLME+ SAP”, 2015-2025), developed in 2013, was a flagship output of the first UNDP/GEF CLME Project (2009-2014).

By June 3rd 2019, the CLME+ SAP had been politically endorsed by a total of 35 Ministers representing 25 countries and 8 overseas territories, thus underpinning its value as a reference document for collective action on the marine environment in our region.

Several UN agencies, global and regional institutions and organisations, and more than 20 countries from the Wider Caribbean/CLME+ region contributed to the development of the SAP.

Through the CLME+ SAP, priority Strategies and Actions required to improve the transboundary governance and management of shared living marine resources had been identified and agreed upon.

The SAP was conceived as an “umbrella action programme”, to be implemented not by one, but through a multitude of organizations, partners, projects and initiatives.

The below tools have been developed to enable the region and its marine stakeholders to collectively track the progress with the implementation of the SAP.

The SAP lists 56 Priority Actions, structured under 6 thematic Strategies and 4 Sub-Strategies.
