PROCARIBE+ promotes marine conservation in Colombia

We have just concluded an intensive and highly collaborative meeting in Cartagena, Colombia, focused on advancing the PROCARIBE+ Project in Colombia.

Over two days, we brought together key stakeholders from the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development, CARDIQUE, CARSUCRE, INVEMAR, UNEP - Cartagena Convention Secretariat and Caribbean Environment Programme (CEP), IOCARIBE, and Colombia's National Natural Parks.

Among the key objectives of this meeting were: defining activities in Colombia, establishing a schedule for their implementation, reviewing and adjusting the budget, establishing the steps to begin implementation in the country, and providing a space to resolve questions.

The coordination achieved at this meeting will enable the launch of PROCARIBE+ activities in Colombia, which seek to support the Management Plan for the Cordillera Beata Nature Reserve, the declaration of new regional protected areas in Sucre and Cartagena Bay, and multisectoral planning for the marine area in Cartagena Bay.
